About A Winter's Tale

Writers: Mike Batt / Sir Tim Rice

Produced By: Dave ‘Buzz’ Buswell

Released: 14th November 2025 Crazy Dog Records

The track is a faithful cover of the much-loved David Essex classic, originally written by Mike Batt and Tim Rice. First released in 1982, A Winter’s Tale became a UK seasonal favourite song that, in it's original two verse version, captured the mood of the season without ever mentioning Christmas.

Andrew’s new version remains true to the spirit of the original while bringing a polished modern production and his distinctive vocal style to the timeless melody.

The Third Verse

This release also includes the infamous third verse, the later addition written by Sir Tim Rice that finally introduces the word Christmas, a fitting nod to the song’s heritage and evolution over time.

'It’s such a beautiful song that so many people remember. I wanted to perform it as a tribute to the original, keeping that classic sound while celebrating one of the great British winter songs and recording the full version as I believe the song should be'. Andrew Nolan
